Lesson #6
February 20th 2020
Hey Dale! Here’s the posture test just to keep your posture in check. Check it before a shot by taking your right hand off the club once you’re setup and make sure your fingertips are touching the top of your knees.
We did another test to find out your body’s natural dominant position for your right arm/hand. You tested as a side-on golfer which means your right hand grip should always be on the side of the handle. Don’t let it drift too far under or on top.
Besides testing some of your body’s natural mechanics the theme of this lesson was on tempo for better overall consistency and performance on the course. Swinging to the beat of a song or a metronome are great ways to work on tempo. Otherwise the freeze drill that we did is another great way to get feedback on what parts of your body are moving out of sync compared to the rest. Pause at the top of your backswing for about 2 seconds before starting the down swing. Do this enough in practice and your on course swing will always complete your backswing before starting the downswing.
Now that we know your dominant right hand/arm position, you have to match it to a correct hinge technique. There’s 3 types of hinges: vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. For a side-on golfer the matching hinge technique is diagonal. So during your backswing you want to feel the clubhead hinge towards your right shoulder. The club will feel very outside your body but the better your pivot and hip/shoulder turn back, the more “on-plane” it will be.
