Rolling the club face open and inside on the takeaway with a path that is too far in to out. Notice the club tracing under the neutral swing path line.

We worked on making some shorter, more compact swings to help feel a better arm/body connection and to promote more torso/chest rotation. Making swings with a headcover, glove, or towel under the right armpit will give you the proper feel you need. However, even with the aid in the picture above the arms are still trailing behind your body too far so it’s going to take a lot of reps before we see some big changes. The good news is the shaft is leaning slighty forward at impact which is a change from earlier in the lesson when it was straight or even leaning backwards.

After the right arm training we finished off with a better takeaway move. These rehearsals in the video above are what you need to feel during the takeaway. Over exaggerating the new move is required in order for any changes to happen. Feel is always different than real in the golf swing and the brain will override any new feels unless it feels drastic. Watch the video below of Justin Thomas and you should see his takeaway as a good example of where we want it.

Can see the arms getting very disconnected from the body and as a result you have to release the club early which adds loft, changes face angle, and makes it nearly impossible to compress the ball.

Setup before and after. Upper body was tilting back too far (setup for driver) and ball position was slightly back in stance.

After some reps with the aid under the right armpit we can notice some changes to the swing path. The club head is now tracing closer to the neutral swing path line on the downswing which will make it easier to compress the ball and control the face.
