Lesson #1
February 27th 2020
Hey Jim, here’s your lesson summary! So basically what we covered was this:
We need to develop a swing that creates a nice circle around a centered point so that it becomes easier to hit the ground in the same spot every time. We are going to focus on your right side, right hip joint for pivot point, and build around it until the left ankle gets more comfortable.
With a right side dominant swing we need to play the ball a little further back in our stance than usual and aim our bodies a little more left. Position your right hand more on the top side of the grip, don’t let it drift very far under the grip. Feel that right palm push on the grip down towards the ball and through impact. This feeling helps make the clubhead drive down and through the turf better.
Finally we talked about, and still need to work on, how you don’t have much rotation of the hips and shoulders in the golf swing. Ankle aside I believe you should be able to achieve a greater range of motion so that your hips and shoulders may turn more and maintain posture rather than sway. The easiest way to practice this is to hit balls while standing on just your back foot. Alternate between 90% of the weight on the back leg to 60-70% so that pivoting off your back leg feels more comfortable. By hitting shots with your feet together it makes it impossible to sway or slide so all that you can do is rotate!
