Lesson #7

So the theme of this lesson was to shorten the length of your swing and feel the upper body out race the lower on the downswing. The video and picture above show you taking what felt like”half” swings which should be your new full swing position. We want the left arm going through the shoulders, which yours is a little below that in this picture, and the left wrist to stay flat, in line with the forearm, where yours is going into a cupped position.
We can see the main issue with your golf swing in the video and pictures above. The lower body is getting way ahead of the upper which causes the swing to go out of sync. The lower has to slow down, stop rotating, and allow the arms and hands to save the shot which is reflected in the flip release you see in the 2nd frame. By feeling your upper body move first on the downswing, and having the club get to the ball before activating your lower body, you will create a reality where both the upper and lower are matched up in speed.
From a technical aspect, you need to over exaggerate the half swing feel with the driver especially since we can see you’re still over swinging in the above video and picture. Then, we finished with a mentality change to help your results on the course. By creating a process before every shot and focusing on the goal we can make bad swings that produce good results. Here is a summary of that process:
Figure out the lie, wind, elevation, yardage, shot selection behind the ball.
Pick a precise target and step up to the side of ball aligning body to target.
Take at least 2 rehearsal swings where you translate a swing thought into a feel.
Once you have a strong/confident sense of the feel address the ball and visualize shot/target.
Connect the feel to the target and swing/release the club towards it!
Repeat before every shot!
