Lesson #1

Hey Greg!

So I have to apologize, I didn’t capture as many pictures and videos as I normally do but I’m going to do my best to give examples of what we worked on.

So we worked on short game in our first lesson and the first shot we worked on was the low chip shot. Basically with the low chip, we want to utilize it as much as we can when playing golf because it is the easier shot to hit with a much bigger margin for error. Take a low lofted wedge or even up to a 9 or 8 iron and put the ball back of your stance with a more upright posture. Set the weight 70-90% on the front side (do the flamingo drill like you see in the video when you struggle with hitting behind the ball) and don’t use any wrist. Think of it like putting with loft. You only need to hit the ball a few feet or yards onto the green and the rest is roll so you read it like a putt.

Then we worked on the high shot which some may call a flop shot. It’s the same setup and principle as a bunker shot so I provided some footage I took earlier last year of me hitting a bunker shot. We talked about how you want to feel like you scoop the sand up onto the clubface and then throw it over your right shoulder. The clubhead needs to get moving faster than the handle of the club through the shot to expose the bounce and to add more loft. Make sure you turn the club face to the right (aka “opening the clubface”), ball position shifts forward so that it’s off the front foot, and still need about 80-90% weight on the front side. The farther from the ball and lower you get to the ground the higher and shorter it will go. Listen for a thud-swish noise for proper turf interaction on this shot.
