Lesson #3

March 8th 2020

Hey Greg, here’s your lesson summary from our 3rd lesson. Above you’ll notice a series of photos that demonstrate how to get into your dynamic posture before every full swing shot. You can check your posture before you hit a shot by placing your right hand on your thigh and making sure your fingertips touch the top of your knee.

This is a video demonstrating the test to find out your body’s natural right arm mechanics. As you can see in the photo below, you tested as a side-cover golfer, meaning that your right hand grip should be on the side of the golf club while favoring more of the top side rather than underneath. This will allow for a more natural backswing and more efficient club delivery through impact.

Now, for every right hand grip position there is a matching hinging technique. The type of hinge you need to match your grip is what we call the diagonal hinge. Simply put, you should feel your wrists hinge the club towards your right shoulder as you rotate in the backswing. This will provide the optimal amount of force and leverage once your reach the top of the swing while keeping the club on the ideal plane.

In this video you are demonstrating a pre-shot routine that allows you to align your club and body correctly while improving the consistency of your setup. Picking an intermediate target 3-6 inches in front of the ball will allow you to accurately align your clubface to the target and then you can set your body to that.

The steps in order are:

  1. Set the club behind the ball and align face to intermediate target.

  2. Build stance around the club while paying attention to width of stance and ball position.

  3. Finally take your grip and get ready to execute your shot!
