Lesson #4
May 8th 2021
The goal of this lesson was to improve the consistency and eliminate the thin and right miss. You can see in the picture above how the left arm doesn’t stay straight and the left wrist starts to bend into a cupped position instead of staying flat. When the left arm bends it essentially gets shorter and causes the swing circle to be lifted up through the ball, which results in a lot of thin shots. In addition to that, the wrist going into a cupped position will leave the club face in a open position and cause shots to go to the right.
The videos above show the exercise we used to create a new feeling of how to use the lead wrist and the swing that followed this exercise. By keeping the back of lead palm pointing towards the ground longer we ensure the club face stays straighter and the shaft maintains forward lean for a longer period of time through the shot. This allows for straighter shots and better control of your swing circle. You’ll notice the difference in the pictures below with the wrist and lead arm positions. The “after” picture has a straighter lead arm at impact and the logo on your glove is pointed more towards the ground with a shaft that is leaning more foward. Picture of Ernie Els at impact for reference.
