Between our 1st and 2nd lesson I noticed you got back to your old habit of standing far from the ball and aiming right of where your target was. You’ll also notice that the club path is still moving very far left through impact with the back foot still firmly planted on the ground.

Another angle of the back foot being planted and shaft leaning backwards at impact indicating a left club path with a very handsy release.

Here you can see the before and after of posture/stance changes. This is huge for you and will get you immediate results if executed consistently. Went from hitting the ball off the toe of the club face to the center. Club path still moving far left with back foot planted. If you look real closely you can even see your lead foot slightly off the ground which confirms most of your pressure is on the back foot.

This is our moment of truth with your golf swing. Burn this image into your memory because this is our end goal. You can see the massive difference between your actual swing and your swing while we did the club throw drill. Just by changing the mindset of target awareness and swinging/releasing the club towards the target rather than the ball. Notice the trail leg and how the knee is driving towards the target and the pressure is mostly in the lead leg. Really doesn’t get any better than that.

Above you’ll see another reason why standing closer and taller to the ball will be better for your swing. The more hunched over you get the more you stand up out of your golf posture and will have to make bad compensations, which lead to inconsistent strikes.

We did a more athletic drill here in an attempt to get your club path moving more to the right aka towards the target. Put balls below and to the left and above and to the right of the ball you want to hit in order to form a gate that the club needs to swing through. Because we’re hitting driver with the ball tee’d up you find a way to cheat with the club still moving left through impact but missing the ball that is in the way.

Here’s a video of Ernie Els and you’ll see something similar about his impact position with yours in the club throw drill. Again, this is the ultimate goal for you and having a more target aware swing will help guide you to it. Ignore the ball and swing towards the target!
