Lesson #2

March 3rd 2020

Hey James! Above you can see how much your body sways off the ball and then struggles to get back to the correct position. The theme of this lesson was to make a better effort at a centered pivot with a full shoulder and hip turn. The final 2 pictures show your post-impact position compared to long time PGA Tour player Retief Goosen. Notice how his arm are still extended where yours are folding and flipping and his pelvis and legs are rotated more towards the target. In order for the arms to stay extended you need to get the hips to open (rotate) more.

So compare this motion to what you see in the pictures above. You want to work towards a motion more like this one in the video.

This was an exercise to get your body to feel and your mind to understand that fundamentally good golf swing has about 45 degrees of hip turn and 90 degrees of shoulder turn. This exercise shows and makes your hips feel what a 45 degree turn is. The more your body sways or slides the less turn it will produce.

These were some better swings with a bigger shoulder and hip turn and a little less sway. You also do a good job of getting off your back foot so that your hips can open more and transfer the weight properly. I would even encourage you to lift your left heel off the ground during your backswing, like Jack Nicklaus, to allow a plant-push motion with your left leg to transition into your downswing.

Better swing here with a better pivot that stays centered over the ball. Keep hitting balls with your feet together in order to feel more rotation and centeredness during your swing.
