Lesson #3

Hey Larry! Here’s your summary from our short game lesson. The pictures above are a good reference for you on what the setup should look like for your stock high soft pitch both out of the rough and in the sand. Remember:
Set weight at least 60% on front leg and keep it there!
Ball position = back of stance for low shots, front of stance for high shots
Posture = lower shots stand closer and taller, high shots stand farther away and get lower to the ground.
You must always have turf interaction. Square face will dig for firm conditions, open face will utilize bounce for soft conditions. Listen for a brush or thud noise for proper turf interaction.
These shots are all in the setup! Once you master how to setup properly to the golf ball then it’s time to master having a target focus instead of a swing focus. Visualize and pick detailed targets and just try and hit them with no swing thoughts! Just like tossing a ball underhanded.
We worked on alignment, ball position, and what I call the flamingo drill here to help your body get used to having majority of your weight on the front side. This directly helps with ball first contact. If you struggle with fat and thin shots, revert back to this drill!
To keep the ball low and rolling the club shaft needs to be ahead of the club head as seen here during this drill. Don’t slow your hands down and let the club head pass your hands until after the ball has been hit in order to keep the shaft leaning forward.
These were both excellent high and soft shots. Study what you did in these shots and try and recreate it! Remember, Bunker swings are the same as the high greenside shot.
