Lesson #2

May 21st 2021

In this lesson we went ahead to the next step of building a better backswing. From the ideal takeaway position, when the club shaft is parallel to the ground the clubhead is outside the hands, we simply hinge our wrists and complete our rotation until the left arm is through the shoulder line and the lead wrist stays nice and flat to the forearm. Be sure to maintain your posture and head position when rehearsing these.

Very nice takeaway positions here into what would be a very nice top of backswing position if you just stopped your swing shorter. You’ll see the ideal position for the top of your backswing in the first picture below and then your old swing comes out and swings past that point. From the old top position the hands come down from too steep of an angle (over the top of the line) and forces you to cut across the ball with an open face.

To help you eliminate your downswing from looping out towards the ball, aka “over the top”, we practiced a lot of half swing shots to make it easier to attack the ball from a more “on-plane” swing and to help further groove your takeaway positions. Good work see you soon!
