Lesson #2
February 12th 2019
Here's a down-the-line view of your swing before the lesson today. As we discussed throughout the lesson I noticed your setup was favoring your right side which increased your knee bend which in turn make your hips and shoulders a little open to your target. Downswing is still looking good. We can see you keep the club pretty on plane and it should stay that way as long as you keep doing your right arm towel drill and favor more body rotation over throwing the arms and hands. From Face-On we can see the setup favoring the right side which makes it harder to get the low point of your swing in front of the ball. We also still see some cupping/flipping of the wrist at impact which stems from not enough body/hip rotation. This wrist condition will produce thin and fat shots day in and day out. In the final frame your hips aren't rotated as much as I'd like and your left leg staying flexed is part of the reason for this. The more that leg straightens and pushes up from the ground, the more your hips will open up. (click on photo for closer view)
Here's the products of our 3 keys from today. We worked on feeling more forward shaft lean with a straight left arm and flat left wirst with the club trailing behind. We altered your setup so you aren't favoring one side and are more over the ball. Then we finished off with some more hip speed and that got your hips more open at impact which increases clubhead speed and allows for more rotation as opposed to stopping and throwing your arms.
This picture should sum up our work today nicely. Big difference in hip rotation at impact. Happy practicing and I'll see you soon!
Here’s a bonus video that explains the hips in more detail. Enjoy.
