Lesson #1

March 17th 2020

Hey Nate! Here’s your summary from our first lesson together. Some of biggest things that stood out to me was your setup and the structure of your backswing. The miss tended to be thin and left, and the more you watch the videos the more you can see why. A very shallow (from the inside) angle of attack into the ball with an early release, so you don’t hit it fat, causes the strike to be low on the face and the face pointing left more often than not. Notice the lack of consistent divots.

So here’s a little before and after. The pictures above show how we changed your setup to help influence a more “on-plane” swing and encourage better balance and athleticism.

The videos above demonstrate the station we created with alignment sticks to help incorporate the new changes.

Above is the start of your backswing or as we in the biz call it, position 2 (P2). So, at P2 majority of great ball strikers have the clubhead stay outside the hands until the club is parallel to the ground. In your P2 we can clearly see the clubhead has sucked way inside behind your body which can cause many issues on the downswing. We worked some drills with alignment sticks to get your body aligned properly at setup and then creating a more “on-plane” takeaway. For you it’s going to feel like you’re taking the club back way more outside and vertically than you’re used to but the reality is, it will be perfectly on plane. Look at your shoulders and their inclination just from changing the direction your take the club back!

These is a great video here of a very powerful tool that will immediately net you more quality shots. The goal before every shot is to assess the lie, distance, wind, slope, landing spot, target and then visualize the shot you want to hit. Once this is all done it is time for execution! Look at your intended target and visualize an imaginary line trailing from your target all the way to 3-6 inches in front of your ball. Use this new spot to align your clubface to your target so that you may then align your body to the club consistently. This will fix any alignment issues on the range or course 99% of the time. One other thing you may notice is taking your right hand off the club and placing it on your thigh above your knee cap. This is a trick to check your body’s posture! if your fingertips are past your knee or too high up on your thigh adjust until the fingertips rest just above the knee cap. Hope this helps!
